klove2's got me thinking about suggestions for people who are just starting with all this hair care stuff and want to know what to do first. Post
suggestons for where to start - maybe things that helped you when you first started, links to helpful websites, or anything else.

It is isn't it?!!! I knew about it and skimmed it a
few times, but never really sat down to go through it
thoroughly. It's really good. I'm taking notes on the
part about trimming and self-relaxing, myself.
LOL
I'm glad it helped. |

No problem! It's the main reason I started the
thread - for people like you who need a "crash
course" for lack of a better term. Tee hee.

This is what I posted to someone that asked about taking care of their hair the other day:
Welcome to the board! I can tell you what I do for my relaxed hair that maybe will help you. I wash my hair with a moisturizing shampoo once week. Depending on how much product build-up, I lather once or twice (I've been just washing it once really well). After I towel blot (don't rub), I then apply a moisturizing conditioner, put on a plastic cap, and sit under the hooded dryer for 20-30 minutes. Then I rinse my hair well and towel blot leaving the hair damp not drippping wet. For styling, I wrap my hair. I just found this link, but this is the technique I use: Wet Wrap. I use a styling foam, but you can use a setting lotion too. After my hair is dry, I apply a few drops of hair oil or spray oil sheen for shine. At night I wrap my hair using this technique: Dry Wrap . I use a wide-tooth comb to wrap it and a satin (or silk) scarf to tie my hair down so it can keep it's shape. I also sleep on a satin pillowcase. I want to roller-set my hair, but I haven't mastered the technique yet. I think my hair has too many lengths, but I'll practice more when it's longer because it will be easier to manipulate on the rollers for me. Here are more hair care tips that I use . (On the same page you can click the other video segments to get more information too.) Roller-setting and wrapping the hair helps to stop using direct heat like curling irons or flat irons every time the hair is styled. Using less or no direct heat will stop the hair from being damaged which too much heat causes the hair to break. I know the other members will give you great tips too. |

Lovemyhair - Welcome to the board! I was looking for a video tutorial on how to wrap hair. When I typed in how to wrap hair on a search
engine, it gave me that site.

Great Hair Guide - permed and natural hair | #16 | ||
|
I read the book - The Black Hair Care Revolution by Yetunde Jude and it was pretty good. She is the author of the Let's Talk Hair Guide. There are a
couple of step by step guides that are easy to follow for both permed hair and natural hair. It tells you how to avoid having dry brittle hair. I loved it!!!
