Posts: 71 07/18/2005 1:23 AM	Hey Carmel, I forgot all about this . Let me update: 1. I am currently about 11 weeks post relaxer. I want to stretch until December/Christmas so I have 20-23 more weeks 2. I have seen significant improvement in the thickness and overall health of my hair. I am now more in love with my new growh than my relaxed ends and am considering transitioning. Well, I got my touch-up on 7/22 and I'm ready to start my next stretch out. 1. When did you start the stretching-out relaxer challenge? I'm starting now (7/29). 2. How many weeks post-relaxer are you currently? How many inches of new growth do you currently have? I'm currently one week post-relaxer. I don't think there's much new growth at all. 3. How many weeks do you plan on sticking with the challenge? I'm pushing for 10 weeks since I made it 10 weeks this last time. So, I'm looking at Sept. 30th for my next touch-up. That will take me to the end of the Summer Hair Care Challenge. So, that's good. C'mon and GROW HAIR, GROW! 4. How are you managing all that new growth? Same as last time. See my first posting, please. 5. Are you currently encountering any challenges with this challenge? No challenges yet. I'll keep ya'll updated. 6. Why have you joined this challenge, and how do you think this would help you achieve your ultimate hair goal? Stretching helps me retain good length so I'm on this challenge to make sure I stay with it.

I plan to CW twice a week and poo/ and deep condition once a week... I will cornrow this week and leave in for 4 days and then do a roller set one day this week... and Moisture, moisture, moisture..... Posts: 1490 08/26/2005 5:54 PM ADMINISTRATOR	Sounds like you've got a good plan, olcow. I definitely agree about not trying to comb through the new growth if it's tough and gets dry. Just do a good detangling and comb-through when you wash, while the hair is wet and try not to touch it much until your next one. That works for me. Good luck!

Posts: 476 09/08/2005 8:45 AM MODERATOR	Well, I don't know how I did, it but I made it through the 8 week stretch ... It really was not that bad but... My last week was a little rough.. only because I had to comb through the jungle that had grew on top of my head and base my scalp so I can get a touch-up ... I think for now 8 weeks will be the most I will stretch... I will have to see how much I gained or lost in length... I can't tell because of all the shrinkage I have... I did not lose a lot of hair(shedding or breakage)... I CW every other day and that was the only time I detangled and combed my hair, so the hair amount lost was normal... I will getting a touch-up today and will post some pictures on Saturday... Thanks for the help and the support... Posts: 1490 09/14/2005 5:19 PM ADMINISTRATOR	Congrats on making it to your goal, olcow! Eight weeks is great and I'm glad it went well. I hear you on getting rough and tough that last week. That's a good indication that you just need to break down and relax. I'm really happy for you, though and I can't wait to see your touch-up pics!!!! As for myself, I'm hanging in there. I had a wedding to go to on Saturday and was trying to figure out what to do with these 7-week post touch-up naps. So, I went to the Dominican salon and, once again, my girls there hooked me up and my hair looked great for the wedding! I snapped some pics that I just need to upload to my Fotki album to show you ladies. The stretching is going okay, though. The blowout has helped me to have a style this week, so that's good. I just don't touch the roots, though, because they are a mess - couldn't get the comb through even if I tried! (I did some sweating doing the hussle at the reception $:\$ LOL) I've been keeping it moisturized and tonight, I'm going to do a CO wash. No breakage and the shedding has been normal. I'm still pushing for Sept. 30th - 10 weeks! Whoa!

That would help with the stretch and if you needed to look cute for a special occasion, they could hook you up... I can't wait to see your pictures... I know they look good as always... I have fallen in love with stretching, I will never be a 6 week relaxer anymore... I just did the CW's every other day and keep it moisturized and only combed when it was wet... But it was a chore when I based my scalp to prepare for the touch-up , I had a real battle with the naps , but it was worth it and my hair actually felt a little thicker after my touchup.. I am getting some length... So now I am working on thicking up the hair(if there is such a thing)...I have thin hair naturally , but I would not mind if it would thicken up, even just a little... I am giving the MTG a break for this period... I am using products that thicken the hair, such as biotin creme just to see what happens... Posts: 58 10/12/2005 8:29 PM	I Started the 2nd week in August I'm 8 weeks post going into the 9th week! My goal was to stretch to 10 weeks. I've always realxed at 8 weeks. My hair is really looks good so maybe i'll try 12 weeks :0 I think Stretching helps you to retain more length and it prevents overlapping. Also your hair seems to get thicker as well. I try to wash every 3-4 days and do longer deep conditions. I pree poo over night under a plastic cap with UBH Moisturizer and coconut oil/sweet almond oil. This softens the new growth alot! P.S. I need to try some sweet almond oil. Where do you buy yours? Can I get it from a health food store? As for myself, I made it my 10 weeks! That last week was really rough and I wasn't sure if I'd make it. But, I had no choice really (hairdresser couldn't get me in until Oct. 3rd). I got nice growth and my relaxer went well. I was having a little bit of breakage so I did a protein deep condition last night (Profectiv Growth Masque) and followed with my moisturizing conditioner (Mizani Moisturfuse). Hair's feeling good now. I'm going to try for 10 weeks again (Dec. 12th), but I may have to go back to 9 if my hair doesn't act right. I don't want to harm my hair by stretching too long. We'll see.

Posts: 476 10/23/2005 3:20 PM MODERATOR	Wow, time flies I am now on my last 2 weeks of my 2nd stretch, since joining in July.... This time has been a little harder than the first one. I have had some shedding and I did a small trimming on the ends.. I think the change in weather has played a part in the shedding... and it has been a long time since I shed so maybe it is my time... I have kept it moisturized though... I think I have some length to retain... I would have liked to done more CW's, but the wet hair in the cooler weather is not working for me... I would like to stretch longer but I can only do that in the warmer months also... for now and until spring comes, I will go for 8 weeks at a time... I still like the stretching and my hair is thicker... so hopefully my hair will be thicker by the summer of 2006..... Posts: 1490 11/04/2005 1:29 AM ADMINISTRATOR	You ladies are so inspirational! Congrats to you all! I'm off to a bumpy start this relaxer cycle. I don't know if my new relaxer (switched to Designer Touch) didn't take well or if my hair is just growing super fast. I'm heading into 5 weeks on Saturday and at the beginning of this week, I was having a hard time getting through my hair with a comb! Talk about nappy! Geez! So, I may not make it 10 weeks this time. I'm going to push for at least 7 or 8 though. We'll see. I agree that maybe the weather is a factor these days. Plus I've been busy and haven't had the time to dedicate to my hair like I know I should. As a matter of fact, I'm behind schedule to deep condition this week. I better get on schedule. I'll update again later.

Posts: 476 11/04/2005 2:07 PM MODERATOR	WEll,I made it through my 8 week stretch... and I got a trim more than I wanted and I was pissed at how much she did trim ...so I have no length to show this time.... but my hair is so much thicker since I have been stretching I am amazed ... So I am gaining a much better grade and quality of hair.... I will always stretch... I wish I could go longer but I need to CW every other day to acheive that... and with the colder weather coming... I just don't know... I may try it and just get under the dryer to dry my hair... Well, I will stretch until the 29th of December....
